In the old time people bought leads list or some even used the phone book to call people as potential new client or customer. It worked great at that time, some even were trained to speak to everyone they know or see, even when it is in the grocery store, and special to go after the cashier or waitress as their target prospect. Well the sad news is that still so many self-called Guru's still teach this approach as a Business Development to build a successful Business.

No today, people will block you as soon they hear a sales pitch special when a person calls them they don't know or didn't request any information.

Today the Business Development Strategy is to build first a relationship with people, know as the target leads, people who are interested in your products or service. With building relationship first gives you the opportunity to find out what their needs is. Sometimes you may don't have the solution for them, but may know someone who can help them. This is a very important step, when you don't have the solution don't be shy and move on, but recommend them someone who can help them. You must become a connector and connect people with others, and pretty soon people will also recommend you with your products or your service.

The key is to become a go to person who has the knowledge and connection. Business Development also means to build a network of connection and relationship in and outside your Business Niche. On the end the most business deals are done with a person that is well known and who are highly recommended from other business people.
